Previously, I made a mall which came out to be too big. I decided to delete it and make it more realistic by sights, OSM, and Google Maps. I am trying to make it as realistic as possible, but can I get tips about how to make it more realistic?

P.S. After I’m done I’ll save and put the coordinates there.

I’m starting to get back into OGF. I’m working on some stuff in my country. I realized I only have one operational airport in Planoria, So i’m gonna have to make another one just because people don’t find driving across far areas that great for them. I kinda see how everyone else’s airports are much more detailed and I look at my sadly basic airport, should I upgrade that or build a new one?

In this comment I mentioned that I altered the Route viewer to make it more suitable to public transit. Since it’s getting messy I decided to put everything on a separate diary entry.

Using the PTV

https://austinhuang.me/ogf-route-relations.html

The Skype and Share buttons are just there - You can adblock it if you want.

Differences from the original

  • No non-public transport routes - That means no highway routes, no electric lines, no ferry. Bus, Train, Tram, Light Rail, and Subway only.
  • Works from Zoom 8 instead of 10!
  • stop:1 (Or whatever number other than 1), stop_entry_only and stop_exit_only are rendered as stops instead of being ignored.
  • platform and platform:1 (Or whatever number other than 1) are ignored instead of being rendered.
  • Displays parent relations - That means you can see what lines are available at a stop/station!
  • Show lines of specific transport types!
  • Option to show 1 specific line! (Press “Reload” to restore to all lines)
  • More transport-specific details! (See Diary 2337)
  • Allow you to scroll past the antimeridian AND see the lines. (See Diary 2337)

Special tags

  • When you click a stop, it shows all the lines, with their background coloured by default. If you want to colour the text instead (Invert the colour), you may add ogf:invert=yes to the relation. You may want to use this feature to differentiate types of lines (Rush-hour, Express, Different frequency, etc).
  • You can change the width of your line by adding ogf:width=<Number> to the relation. By default, the number is 5. Floats should work.
  • You can change the opacity of your line by adding ogf:opacity=<Number> to the relation. By default, the number is 1. Floats should (and have to) work.

Can I improve this?

Sure, it’s on GitHub.

EDIT: Forum thread here

Hey everyone,

I’ve started mapping Vumrupstat one of the most important cities in Reeland, the capital of the province Oberlant. The first part of the city I’m about to make is the former fortress (like Innenstadt in Frankfurt, Innere Stadt in Vienna, Budavár in Budapest). For now, I made a palace like Hofburg in Vienna, a ring road around the former city walls, and a few streets inside.

I’m interested in whether I’m doing a good job for now. Do you all think this is realistic?

Also, I’m not sure if the palace should be used for tourism, or maybe as a parliament building for the province?

I’m open for all criticism and suggestions.

Best regards

  1. Hey, guys. I was wondering if I could enlarge a freeway (45) so that it could reach Chico? I made this freeway to connect my city to Katsnelson. Soon I thought of making it bigger, and I saw Chico. Because Katsnelson is not connected to Chico, and Chico is not connected to any city, can I enlarge 45 to Chico?

(Problem)

  1. Hey, guys, in this diary entry I also wanted to list a problem. Somebody (I don’t know who) made the cliff ‘Peakton Cliff’. It surrounds a lot of Commonia, and I don’t remember seeing it before. I’ve been editing my city for long, and I don’t remember the cliffs there. Can I delete parts of it surrounding my city?

So I’ve redone my airport here. https://opengeofiction.net/#map=14/-27.8422/118.6417

I removed those oversized rectangular terminals and put in more realistic looking ones. Next, I reconfigured the taxiways to make it look more realistic (no more triangles).

There is a lot of open space within the airport that I don’t know what to do with, though. Any feedback would be nice.

I spent about an hour trying to figure out how to configure JOSM in order to edit OGF with it, but I have failed to find a tutorial that works with the current version. Like, jeez, it’s kinda frustrating. I searched the entire forums for anything regarding how to get JOSM working with OGF, and couldn’t find any scrap of information. It’s also unhelpful that the wiki only provides about 1/6th of the information needed before just linking to this video. I can see why there was demand for a video tutorial, but now the only video tutorial we have doesn’t line up with the current version of JOSM. Man, I just want to edit.

I have been wondering if it is possible to see the OGF world as it was in the far past (relative to this site), such as say, 2015. (I’m not really looking for a certain date.) I think it would be cool to see how OGF has changed since then.

The only thing I have found is going to past versions of the overview map and seeing the different country shapes in certain areas (it looks extremely different in the AR120 area), but current mapping is shown underneath the country shapes. The mapping back then is what I would want to see, as it is hard to track down origins of old mapping. (I’m not looking to find the date that certain pieces of mapping were created either.)

I know this probably isn’t realistic, but is there a way?

I’ve been using this site for about a day, but I do realize this is a private worldbuilding project and not strictly a tool. I really like the iD editor, but I’m trying to figure out how I can use it for my own personal use instead of a contribution to the project, because my setting doesn’t exactly fit the guidelines. The answers I’ve found online seem trustworthy, but some level of coding seems to be required, and I’m no programmer. I’ve tried using the JOSM editor, but I still much prefer iD. Might the community have any suggestions?

I have been thinking, for the past few months, are there actually female users around? I mean, this OGF site has been pretty much dominated by males, and usernames don’t tell us much.

I am asking this not because I am one (I am not anyway), but just being curious if it is a fact that only men are interested in geofiction and mapping.

Bonus question: How are women treated in your country? Is there some huge gap between the genders such as access to jobs and education? Does gender inequality exist in your country and how are your governments trying to ‘bridge the gap’? (just a check on women rights around the OGF world)

Hello,

I’m having issues setting up county lines in my state, Aperia. My goal is to have the line say “Lee County” on that side of the line. Here are the tags I have set as a relation for every border of the county:

name = Lee County
type = boundary
boundary = administrative
admin_level = 6
place = county

Any help is appreciated!

After my precedent diary entry, I’ve created a discord server for those who want to interact with my nation

Here’s the link : https://discord.gg/eVqBcEt

EDIT : the link is no longer valid, since this seems to be a somewhat sensitive subject, that wasn’t my goal at all. The discod will stay private from now on. If you want to interact with Vilvetia, use PM and we’ll continue on discord / PM or wiki when I’ll have made more progress

Hey everyone, it’s first entry !

I’ve “finished” an island, named the Eye after it’s volcano, and would like some feedback, especially for how to show altitude better than what I’ve done so far

It’s an tourism oriented place with hotels, beaches and some luxurious residences, and an hiking trail who goes up, aournd and into the crater of an ancient volcano.

I was also thinking of having a F1 race around the island, with the stands near the harbor, and don’t really know what I need to add/remove/adjust to make it work, if some of you would help me with that, I’ll be gratefull !
