Hello, I am the owner of the country Rockland in South Archanta (AR050-16) and I’ve noticed two boundary relations marking the borders of the country: [Rockland, 130251] (https://opengeofiction.net/relation/130251) and Slerren, 130260 .

(Slerren is the country’s former name.)

What is the purpose of the second one? Does it need to exist? I’ve looked in other countries in the region and they only have one boundary relation, tagged the same way as [Rockland, 130251] (https://opengeofiction.net/relation/130251) . Can I delete Slerren, 130260 , or does it need to stay?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been drawing German-styled cities for years now, and many of them look decent, but none of them have that characteristic inner city well mapped. I know roughly how those develop historically, but there isn’t any guide on how to map those developments.

I’ve been told that I should start from the main square and then develop “blocks” – spaces in between streets. Then, the streets should follow the borders of the blocks. This advice seems good, but it’d be nice if there were a more detailed guide on how to do that – for example, I have no idea how to develop blocks.

If someone experienced enough could explain this whole process, we could use this entry on the wiki in the help/resources section.

Mecyna 2.0

Mecyna is the second supervised open collaborative territory in OpenGeofiction (OGF) (indicated blue on the OGF:Territory overview map). All mappers are welcome to contribute! However unlike other blue territories, there are no restrictions as to what can or cannot be mapped outside of 2 rules:

1. The OGF rules apply (as it does elsewhere on OGF); and
2. Mapping must not be deleted.

This means:

• mapping your large metropolis;
• implementing your visions to what has already been mapped [without it being destructive to existing mapping]; or
• connecting settlements with motorways, railways, and/or rivers (links are tips to drawing them well).

My role as co-ordinator includes helping new users improve their mapping and making the territory more coherent. New users editing in the territory are also free to contact me for mapping or mapping-related technical assistance (such as with using the iD (the in-browser editor) and JOSM editors.

The collaborative state of Seneppi

On behalf of my fellow state coordinator Ernestpcosby, we are happy to invite mappers to join Seneppi, the Midwestern U.S.-themed collaborative state in the Federal States of Archanta. Seneppi – which includes the former state of Walkegan – represents a broad cross-section of mapping inspired by the Great Lakes region of the United States, including the following areas:

• Wallawaukee, a modern major FSA city located on the shores of the largest of the FSA’s Grand Lakes;
• Gramercy and Clinton, two aging cities that were historically the headquarters of the FSA’s auto manufacturing industry but more recently have found themselves as part of the FSA’s “Rust Belt”;
• the Lake City suburbs, highly auto-oriented suburban sprawl oriented along several trunk highways and motorways radiating out from Lake City;
• Finch Hill, a small master-planned city that will serve as Seneppi’s new state capital;
• Gleason, an older river-based city that has reinvented itself as a regional educational and health care hub;
• and more!

We are seeking mappers who are interested in helping to map one of these urban areas, or who would be interested in adopting a more rural county with small towns and a strong agricultural presence. We would like to restart the Deodeca project - a majority Spanish speaking country in South Archanta. The south of the country would be majority native Archantan languages (think native American).

It is envisaged that coordination of the project will be done in Spanish. (so excuse this message!)

Deodeca (map) shares boundaries with the Federal States and Ardencia project, along with other territories.

Hi All,

I have been unable to make saves to my map for weeks now.

Admin confirmed my account is still active.

I do restore/re-set and try to save, but the ‘upload’ button is “greyed out”.

Any ideas how to resolve this as Admin said I shouldn’t create a new account.

My map area is the state of Gilliad in the United States of Archanta. thanks!

Is it me or is there only one renderer (the standard ‘Mapnik’ -like style) active ? It looks like both Topomap and the ‘Histor style’ renderer are not active.

For the past few days, the OGF wiki has been working perfectly for me. I thought it was just me, until Marcello replied saying that it worked smoother than ever after they accidentally clicked on it. I am calling any mappers that are exceptionally good at making buildings and can make a company building in the downtown area of Fayette, or build condos in Elson & York.

How do I participate?

You will be allowed to choose where you’d like to place your building (Condos will be in Elson & York) What business it is, and how tall it would be. I don’t want Burj Khalifa heights due to this city being based off of Toronto. I’d recommend researching on how tall buildings are in Toronto to relate that to Fayette’s buildings.

If you think of mapping a small convenience store or a small market for your country (For example how IRL Toronto has Jamaican supermarkets dotted across Downtown & North York, you can draw inspiration from those places for your business). I would allow this however, still be realistic with how they’re mapped.

If you plan to map a building for media companies, please include it as an FSA franchise when the wiki works again. With regional businesses (Such as markets that aren’t included as a national chain) are usually not considered a franchise.

How Would most of these areas would work

• York - Semi Urban/Semi Suburban
• Elson - Based off of North York, It is a suburban area that has higher density condos and such, with many modern amenities like North York does IRL.
• Downtown - This area is self explanatory, although it is mostly urban, many places are much older in architecture and how they were planned, so you might have to make sure it fits the theme of the neighborhood

As FSA coordinator and a New Carnaby state coordinator, I am pleased to announce that Stanton is going to be improved upon. Me and several other members of the FSA community thought it would be best if Stanton had a more unique and creative design rather than the current one. We are currently planning for it to be based on this sketch from Toadwart for the waterways and coastline, and changes following that will be done on a more neighborhood by neighborhood basis.

It is with great pleasure to officially launch the Bai Project today. The Bai Project consists of a group of East Asian nations set in Northern Archanta. In addition to the Bai Empire, there will be two other homelands for the Koreans and Japanese launched in a later stage. A strong regional power with a growing economy and huge population, the Empire will greatly influence the regional history and culture. The Bai Empire is a modern semi constitutional Chinese monarchy, different from modern China we know of.

The project will be launched in three phases. Currently, the first phase, which consists of 13 provinces and 3 municipalities (see attached province map), is available for mapping and collaboration. Anyone with a background and understanding of Chinese culture and history is welcome to join in the project. Hi! I would like to inform that I have created and expanded Orlans Valley, a middle-upper class community on the edges of Gobras City with major commercial and financial spots. It is a very green and bike friendly city, with parks surrounding the creek throughout the entire city, and biking paths that go throughout most parks, the old town and the downtown. I am planning on expanding the city even further with mostly residential everywhere between Tequalia and Lampson Avenues, as well as further south between El Verano Way, Freedom Boulevard and the freeway. Throughout all of these zones I will continue including parks and bike lanes all throughout. I need some ideas and possibly help to achieve all of these, so if anyone wants to offer any ideas in the comments or help maybe send me a message and we can coordinate! Have a nice day!

I wish you all a happy and successful year 2021 - with much time for OGF, not only because of COVID19.

Unfortunately, the current situation has not left any gap for OGF during the past months. I’m looking forward to a new gap to continue drawing Nerschach, the Kalmish capital.

I also did not have time to prepare the collaborative status of my countries any further. However, you can just contact me with any collaboration proposals, if you’re interested in working in a specific part of my countries.

How to participate in mapping Erfeldia, Garlis, Kalm, and Ventria?

FIRST OF ALL: Please do not start mapping in my countries before you have my “official” go.

1. Select a region, a mapping subject, and a level of detail for the part of one of my countries you’re interested in
2. Send me a PM referencing your mapping work in your own country or in a blue/collaborative territory in OGF. Also, please tell me a bit of yourself and about your opinion about your own mapping skills and specific mapping interests.
3. I will give you as much info as I can about my own ideas for the respetive region.
4. We will discuss the process of your mapping developments, so that it meets both your wish to be create in maaping own ideas and my wish to keep everything approximately in accordance with the ideas I have in mind for the respetive region.
5. Start mapping, send me a PM with the first mapping results. You can be sure, that I will like many parts of it - but also that I will have some remarks for necessary changes.

I don’t normally use the Potlatch editor, but when I switched it on for a small edit, I got an on-screen prompt to allow Adobe Flash to run. Adobe Flash will be discontinued on December 31st, and by implication, Potlatch will be disabled as well.

Is provision going to be made for those users who normally use Potlatch?

Hey all!

As I was starting to map out some streets in the city of Ochent, I wondered: What are going to be the street name types? I am posting this diary on behalf of the Ohesia Collaborative Project, and want to have a discussion amongst other mappers in the area. I was hoping for us to discuss terms that would fully define the name of primary, secondary, tertiary, and residential roads, such as “Name Street”,”Name Avenue”,”Name Drive”, etc. What are the Ohesian Translations for these terms going to be? Here are some ideas that I have:

• Street – Stroće /ʃtrōʃə/
• Avenue – undecided at the moment
• Motorway/Highway – Otoban /œtō’bɒn/

Those are ideas that I’ve proposed. Of course, you may change these, as you are free to. What ideas do you have to identify types of roads. I would also like to know: Does Ohesian follow the rules of most adjectives coming after the noun? This knowledge would be helpful to the mapping process. Anyways, that is all I am going to say for now.

Hello there.

When I joined the OGF I quickly realized that mapping on blank paper is very hard. So, I tried to print my country, draw something on the paper then trace this in JOSM. But all online services work only with OSM.

Then I found project BigMap2: https://github.com/Zverik/bigmap2

I installed it on my linux server, added OGF tiles links and now I can generate image of any place in OpenGeoFiction with any required details.

Hello again. First, thanks to all of you who responded to my questions, and I have decided to keep working on Gobras City for a little more before claiming my own territory.

Now, concerning Gobras City: I’d very much like to add/detail a 1. Fashion District 2. Times Square-sorts of district 3. Suits and ties and skyscrapers commerce hub district And I would like to know if there already is or there is a specific location for any of these mentioned.

I have also roughly expanded a small block on the port commercial zone with one fiberglass and one automobile factories, and would like to also know if there is any list of the “Fortune 500” of OGF so we can all keep them in mind when building industrial zones.

Hi! I’ve come back from a long hiatus and will start to be active again when possible. I have several questions that I would like to ask the community.

First, about collaborative countries:

1. How do I join a collaborative country?
2. Can I create a collaborative country?

These two questions come from the fact that I love doing street layouts and detailing but can’t really work on highways or long roads efficiently because my computer doesn’t let me intall JOSM.

Second, about creating a sorts of city state:

1. Is there any city state in OGF?
2. How could I create a city state?
3. Can I get in touch with a country owner and have them lend me a small piece of land to create a city state?
