Attention new users: as the OGF wiki isn’t working, please read here for important site information. Thank you!!

I am calling any mappers that are exceptionally good at making buildings and can make a company building in the downtown area of Fayette, or build condos in Elson & York.

How do I participate?

DM me on OGF or Discord (I respond faster on Discord) where my username is Ezo UpNorthCanadaTV#0004

You will be allowed to choose where you’d like to place your building (Condos will be in Elson & York) What business it is, and how tall it would be. I don’t want Burj Khalifa heights due to this city being based off of Toronto. I’d recommend researching on how tall buildings are in Toronto to relate that to Fayette’s buildings.

If you think of mapping a small convenience store or a small market for your country (For example how IRL Toronto has Jamaican supermarkets dotted across Downtown & North York, you can draw inspiration from those places for your business). I would allow this however, still be realistic with how they’re mapped.

If you plan to map a building for media companies, please include it as an FSA franchise when the wiki works again. With regional businesses (Such as markets that aren’t included as a national chain) are usually not considered a franchise.

How Would most of these areas would work

  • York - Semi Urban/Semi Suburban
  • Elson - Based off of North York, It is a suburban area that has higher density condos and such, with many modern amenities like North York does IRL.
  • Downtown - This area is self explanatory, although it is mostly urban, many places are much older in architecture and how they were planned, so you might have to make sure it fits the theme of the neighborhood

If interested private message me on Opengeofiction or send a Discord DM Ezo UpNorthCanadaTV#0004 .

Hello OGF community,

As FSA coordinator and a New Carnaby state coordinator, I am pleased to announce that Stanton is going to be improved upon. Me and several other members of the FSA community thought it would be best if Stanton had a more unique and creative design rather than the current one. We are currently planning for it to be based on this sketch from Toadwart for the waterways and coastline, and changes following that will be done on a more neighborhood by neighborhood basis.

If anyone has any suggestions for the project or wants to participate, feel free to reply here or send me a message.

Blessed greetings and a Happy Lunar New Year to all!

It is with great pleasure to officially launch the Bai Project today. The Bai Project consists of a group of East Asian nations set in Northern Archanta. In addition to the Bai Empire, there will be two other homelands for the Koreans and Japanese launched in a later stage. A strong regional power with a growing economy and huge population, the Empire will greatly influence the regional history and culture. The Bai Empire is a modern semi constitutional Chinese monarchy, different from modern China we know of.

The project will be launched in three phases. Currently, the first phase, which consists of 13 provinces and 3 municipalities (see attached province map), is available for mapping and collaboration. Anyone with a background and understanding of Chinese culture and history is welcome to join in the project. Interested mappers can claim a territory of their own (see the project page for details of the provinces), or sign up to be part of the following three collaborative projects:

Hi! I would like to inform that I have created and expanded Orlans Valley, a middle-upper class community on the edges of Gobras City with major commercial and financial spots. It is a very green and bike friendly city, with parks surrounding the creek throughout the entire city, and biking paths that go throughout most parks, the old town and the downtown. I am planning on expanding the city even further with mostly residential everywhere between Tequalia and Lampson Avenues, as well as further south between El Verano Way, Freedom Boulevard and the freeway. Throughout all of these zones I will continue including parks and bike lanes all throughout. I need some ideas and possibly help to achieve all of these, so if anyone wants to offer any ideas in the comments or help maybe send me a message and we can coordinate! Have a nice day!

This is a follow-up on this diary entry.

Hi OGF community,

I wish you all a happy and successful year 2021 - with much time for OGF, not only because of COVID19.

Unfortunately, the current situation has not left any gap for OGF during the past months. I’m looking forward to a new gap to continue drawing Nerschach, the Kalmish capital.

I also did not have time to prepare the collaborative status of my countries any further. However, you can just contact me with any collaboration proposals, if you’re interested in working in a specific part of my countries.

How to participate in mapping Erfeldia, Garlis, Kalm, and Ventria?

FIRST OF ALL: Please do not start mapping in my countries before you have my “official” go.

  1. Select a region, a mapping subject, and a level of detail for the part of one of my countries you’re interested in
  2. Send me a PM referencing your mapping work in your own country or in a blue/collaborative territory in OGF. Also, please tell me a bit of yourself and about your opinion about your own mapping skills and specific mapping interests.
  3. I will give you as much info as I can about my own ideas for the respetive region.
  4. We will discuss the process of your mapping developments, so that it meets both your wish to be create in maaping own ideas and my wish to keep everything approximately in accordance with the ideas I have in mind for the respetive region.
  5. Start mapping, send me a PM with the first mapping results. You can be sure, that I will like many parts of it - but also that I will have some remarks for necessary changes.

Kind regards
Johannes

I don’t normally use the Potlatch editor, but when I switched it on for a small edit, I got an on-screen prompt to allow Adobe Flash to run. Adobe Flash will be discontinued on December 31st, and by implication, Potlatch will be disabled as well.

Is provision going to be made for those users who normally use Potlatch?

Hello all,

by now, you are probably familiar with the OGF Blue Book:

The OGF Blue Book, linked below, is a document which compiles all of the essential information about rules of the website, territories and mapping, and it is strongly recommended that all new or recently joined users read it.

It continues to serve as an alternative (in some ways as a replacement) to the OGF Wiki, which at the moment offers limited functionality, and can not be repaired by the currently active members of the admin team.

Quick advice: which territories can new users edit?

Hello, mappers! The year is coming to an end and needless to explain, we all need a break. Personally I’ve been living the same day over and over again for the past several months, and while I recognize the luxury and privilege of being able to stay home, sometimes I also feel like losing my mind because of it. These days it can be quite easy to feel burnt out and directionless, and to lose interest even in things you’ve enjoyed for a long time – like geofiction.

Hey all!

As I was starting to map out some streets in the city of Ochent, I wondered: What are going to be the street name types? I am posting this diary on behalf of the Ohesia Collaborative Project, and want to have a discussion amongst other mappers in the area. I was hoping for us to discuss terms that would fully define the name of primary, secondary, tertiary, and residential roads, such as “Name Street”,”Name Avenue”,”Name Drive”, etc. What are the Ohesian Translations for these terms going to be? Here are some ideas that I have:

  • Street – Stroće /ʃtrōʃə/
  • Avenue – undecided at the moment
  • Motorway/Highway – Otoban /œtō’bɒn/

Those are ideas that I’ve proposed. Of course, you may change these, as you are free to. What ideas do you have to identify types of roads. I would also like to know: Does Ohesian follow the rules of most adjectives coming after the noun? This knowledge would be helpful to the mapping process. Anyways, that is all I am going to say for now.

Happy Mapping,

Hello there.

When I joined the OGF I quickly realized that mapping on blank paper is very hard. So, I tried to print my country, draw something on the paper then trace this in JOSM. But all online services work only with OSM.

Then I found project BigMap2: https://github.com/Zverik/bigmap2

I installed it on my linux server, added OGF tiles links and now I can generate image of any place in OpenGeoFiction with any required details.

Hello again. First, thanks to all of you who responded to my questions, and I have decided to keep working on Gobras City for a little more before claiming my own territory.

Now, concerning Gobras City: I’d very much like to add/detail a 1. Fashion District 2. Times Square-sorts of district 3. Suits and ties and skyscrapers commerce hub district And I would like to know if there already is or there is a specific location for any of these mentioned.

I have also roughly expanded a small block on the port commercial zone with one fiberglass and one automobile factories, and would like to also know if there is any list of the “Fortune 500” of OGF so we can all keep them in mind when building industrial zones.

Thanks for the time! Happy mapping.

Hi! I’ve come back from a long hiatus and will start to be active again when possible. I have several questions that I would like to ask the community.

First, about collaborative countries:

  1. How do I join a collaborative country?
  2. Can I create a collaborative country?

These two questions come from the fact that I love doing street layouts and detailing but can’t really work on highways or long roads efficiently because my computer doesn’t let me intall JOSM.

Second, about creating a sorts of city state:

  1. Is there any city state in OGF?
  2. How could I create a city state?
  3. Can I get in touch with a country owner and have them lend me a small piece of land to create a city state?

Thanks for your attention and have a great day!

after 3 years of inactivity I have returned to editing, over the past few days I have made many changes to my little town of Fremont in blue space. I have been at a loss for where to start on some of my many plans for the area and plan to develop it further until i run out of space, then I shall look into requesting a small territory to build all my ideas, preferably the land labeled ARO19c.

ATTENTION NEW USERS – AS THE WIKI MAY REMAIN INACCESSIBLE, ALL RULES AND ESSENTIAL INFORMATION ARE LISTED HERE IN THE USER BLUEBOOK!

Hello, I’d like to share a tip for you, how to have the wiki at normal speed.

First you have to go to your Preferences (stopping it after 10 seconds to load basic HTML should work), then go to Appearance, and change the Skin to Modern. Click save. Then, enjoy wiki-ing.

Thanks to TheMayor for sharing this trick with me.

Happy mapping and maybe writing, Tito_zz

H.M. Shia Space Center is the only space facility of Cinasia for now. It is managed by Cinasian Space Agency. the Space Center can operate heavy rocket (size of Ariane 5 in the real world) at the First Launch Complex for manned spacecraft, business, science and military satellites. Besides, two space navigation companies, SpaceY(暢宇) and and Sand Martin(沙燕), built various type of launch complex, for both recyclable rocket and traditional rocket. In the Future, Cinasia would like to cooperate with other nations for bigger space program, the launch site will be some where at Yuethon(越漢). Feel free to comment and leave me message if your country wanna launch an Space Odyssey too.

IMPORTANT: THIS IS ABOUT A FUTURE COLLABORATION STATUS. NO WORK OF OTHER USERS WITHIN THE MENTIONED COUNTRIES IS PERMITTED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE!

Dear mappers,

I recently took the decision to turn my countries into a well-coordinated collaborative status in the beginning of 2021. I have to much land and by far not enough time.

As the wiki is not loading here, I can’t create a wiki page for that right now. But here are some important points.

  • I have many ideas for many parts of the country, that are not yet mapped. So in any case, any cooperation would require the willingness of the respective user to discuss things in advance and to adapt things if they don’t fit into my “mental map” of the respective country.
  • Every region has a different mapping status, so there are regions where I still would have to outline some basic features before someone can work there. This also results in the allowance to map only general features in a smaller zoom level or only detailed features in a larger zoom level.
  • There will be a very strict application procedure for interested users, e.g. the need to create some examples of mapping that fits into the respective country in a selected “testing area” (where it might be removed if it doesn’t reach the needed standards). There will be a testing phase and a well regulated approval procedure of changes.
  • [tbc]

In a dedicated section of my user page in the wiki I will present some tasks where people apply to. Examples:

  • Motorway/national road numbers for Kalm
  • More natural looking waterway connection between the Hesperic Ocean and the Vinn Sea
  • Create a nice and natural looking coastline
  • Help with mountainous regions (I’m not very god at it)
  • Help with other natural features (nice looking rivers, lakes, etc.)
  • Map the city of Herlenz
  • Continue the work on the Kelmtal region, Kalm’s Ruhr area
  • …

Hello, mappers, a message from Eklas.

Recently, there has been an increase in new users on the website editing the map where they’re not allowed to, citing that they couldn’t access the wiki About page, where important information about our rules is stored. While the admin team doesn’t consider that an excuse for not following the rules (because you can always stop the loading after a few seconds and then read the plain HTML version), it is becoming a problem. This is why I have put together a document which compiles all of the essential information stored on the wiki not only regarding the rules, but also other information and resources. I’ve named it the User Bluebook, in reference to, well, the usual color of guidebooks.

The OGF Bluebook, linked below, compiles all of the essential information about rules of the website, territories and mapping, and it is strongly recommended that all new or recently joined users read it.

Quick advice: which territories can new users edit?

Wiki has many troubles for the moment, so I decided to addapt the content of OGF:Ohesia to a user diary and also make you part of this project. Here I go.

Ohesia (Oǵemetézt in ohesian and Ochezien in kalmish) is a country located in northern Antarephia. It consists of a federation composed by about 8 regions (which still don’t have a name).

This country was an old kalmish colony and its linguistic situation is similar to South Africa. Kalmish is specially spoken in the capital and its surroundings, and a native language (conlang) is spoken in most of the rest of the country. The size of the country is about the size of Honduras.

Name of the country

The main idea is to create a similiar situation to real life Turkey and Turkmenistan. Ohemian language is the main language of the Antarephian family as well as turkish is of the Turkic family.

Who can map

Everybody is invited to map in this collaborative country, specially german people. Regarding the languages that will be used, there is further information down below.

Collaboration Rules

(A part of this point is copied from the OGF:Moonshine Archipelago wikipage, a nice project with similar characteristics that shows that collaboration can work)

Things you can do at anytime without asking. But be aware that concurrent editing without coordination may result in conflicts. Make sure to know how to resolve them.

  • Map new villages (pop. ~500 - 30 000) and connect them with roads
  • Extend existing villages within a reasonable amount
  • Build tertiary and secondary roads
  • Improve existing villages with buildings and details
  • Add natural features
  • Create inner borders

Things everybody wants to do, but we don’t need too many of them or we need coordination. Remember it is not a blue territory

  • Build primary roads
  • Naming major features

Things we just wont allow even if you ask us. Exceptions may still be possible in certain circumstances with a very good reason.

It would be fun to have more than neighbor already, but I want to ask for advise on a border checkpoint, I already have 1 main one and 1 very small one with just a road connection and a building. However, I have multiple roads that just dead end as I move along my western border as there is nothing to connect to. However, with my one existing main checkpoint, I don’t really know how they work so I just went with what I thought was at one. Please give constructive criticism in how I can improve my checkpoints and if you want to help me in general with this, I’d appreciate it, Thanks, and Happy Mapping.
